With the automotive industry spanning the globe, it can be incredibly difficult to know where your car was manufactured. That’s why Cars.com and the American Kogod School of Business joined forces to create the American-Made Index: a study designed to find out which brands build the most American vehicles on the market. Unsurprisingly, GM came out on top of the 2020 list.
In order to draft a definitive ranking, the American-Made Index did a deep dive into 91 vehicles, evaluating where they were manufactured, the origin of their major parts, and the place where they were finally put together. The organization also factors in total domestic content, which is a good indicator of how many models are on American lots.
Ultimately, General Motors vehicles claimed 20 spots on the overall list and nine in the top 25 — more than any other automaker. Chevrolet, in particular, over performed. To start, GM’s highest-ranked model was the Corvette, which came in eighth place overall and was closely followed by the Colorado in 10th. Next, 10 Chevy models found a spot, which matches the showing made by Buick, Cadillac, and GMC put together.
In short, if you want to drive an all-American vehicle, it doesn’t get any better than a Chevy from Atzenhoffer Chevrolet, right here in beautiful Victoria, Texas.
