The annual Cars.com America-Made Index recognized three Chevrolet vehicles as being some of the “most American” cars in the auto industry: the Corvette, Colorado, and Camaro. The index is designed to help buyers make decisions based on the brand and car that contributes most to the US economy.
Cars.com chose its top 15 most American vehicles by measuring how much of their materials come from the US and how much of their production is US-based. The Chevrolet Corvette, which is produced in Bowling Green, Kentucky, made No. 5 on the list, up five spaces from last year.
The Chevy Colorado is No. 8 on the list. Produced in Wentzville, Missouri, the Colorado shares an assembly plant with the GMC Canyon, both of which are new to the America-Made Index this year due to a substantial increase in domestic production. The classic American muscle car made in Lansing, Michigan — the Chevy Camaro — is No. 11 on the index.
The survey takes a variety of factors into account, including how many of the automaker’s employees are American, the origin countries of the vehicle’s engine, transmission, and other parts, and the location of assembly. The cars on the list had the highest degree of American-made parts and laborers, and all fifteen were built in the U.S.
